The U.S. Department of Education approved 10 more short-term training programs for the Workforce Pell Grant, bringing the total number of approved programs to 21. The Department announced Monday its approval of four programs at Eastern Florida State College. Eligible students will be able to use the Workforce Pell Grant toward tuition for Eastern Florida’s training programs for firefighters, correctional officers and emergency management technicians. “Eastern Florida State College is tremendously proud to be the first college in Florida to support this innovative Workforce Pell Grant program in partnership with national and state leaders,” said Eastern Florida State College President Jim Richey. “By aligning affordable education and workforce training with industry needs, we are creating more opportunities for students while helping employers build the skilled workforce necessary to drive Florida’s future economic growth.”. Last week, the Department of Education announced its approval for six programs at Forsyth Technical Community College, located in Winston-Salem. Programs are required to receive approval from their state’s governor and the Secretary of Education.
